So What About Us ?
So what's so great about Grubby Angels anyways right? I dunno we're just cool. Neat? Awesome! Yah, that's it! We're awesommmme. OK, now that we are clear on that, how about an introduction to the artist?
Angelisa the Head Grubby has been an artist since... like forever!! She has always doodled, carved, sculpted, photographed and creatively manipulated anything she can get her hands on.. even her parents were manipulated by... oh wait, we're supposed to be focusing on her art here.
As I was saying.. She went to a community college in Baltimore and received her AA in Fine Art in 1993 (ooo, yah…. probably should have left that date out. too late!) and discovered she really liked sculpting. Like all the way down to her toes. Although, she still dreams of becoming a children's book illustrator all the way up to her eyeballs. Which brings us to her passion for illustrating lighthearted characters, scenes and the like. These watercolors with pen and ink turn up on her greeting cards. Her biggest fan and supporter, Grammy Happy Bottom Tenney, bought and ordered loads of these cards and pushed her to follow her talent.
Realizing that the art field is "chalked" full of great artists she decided to pick up a day job. You know, just in case… In the day job she disguises herself as a clerk and views the world from the workforce pit. When she gets home, she spends time with the two littlest grubby angels, puts them to bed and begins creating into the wee hours of the night.. in the morning she turns into a zombie, takes the Little Grubbies to school, puts on her disguise and does it all over again. wheeeeeee... zzzzzzz...
In her spare time she has pursued other educational venues to expand her creative mind. She has taken fine art and graphic design classes at Maryland Institute of Art. Moved to Arizona and taken pottery, ceramics, graphic design, web design and will be finishing her BA at Northern Arizona University in December of 2013. Well, you don’t want her to get bored, do you?? Actually, I think she may be ready for some boredom... and possibly a bit of sleep. But that would be boring, right?
She looks forward to getting back to those Artisan fairs when she graduates. Although, since the advanced development of the web she has been able to set up shop online. Now her ornaments travel to Canada, Montana, Florida, friends houses, co-workers desks and frankly anywhere they are called for.
Even her Little Grubbies get into the fray and create. Both of them have already sold paintings and ornaments as well. However, it’s hard for the Head Grubby to let go of the Little Grubby creations. So if you see any available you better snatch them up before she changes her mind.
Angelisa loves to share her studio with her babes. They are her inspiration and joy. Her husband has a knack for making things happen for them too. In fact, he was able to snag a consignment gig in Jerome that lasted 5 years for the angels. He also builds easels, clears additional space in the studio/garage, cuts high branches down for art dolls and all kinds of things that make his eyes roll. He really supports them in many ways even if he may think they are crazy….
Grubby Angels is a fine art studio that creates unique and whimsical greeting cards, sculptures, art dolls, paintings, illustrations and whatever else we can get our hands dirty in..
